Paul is thankful to be a part of a community like Second that represents a wide stretch of theological and political views while passionately centering itself on the Mission of God in Christ.
Paul graduated with a degree in secondary education from the University of Wisconsin, received his MDiv from Fuller Theological Seminary and completed Doctor of Ministry degree in 21st Century Church Leadership at Drew University in Madison, N.J. He and his wife have three children.
Paul loves traveling with family, a good read, pick-up basketball and strong coffee, among many other things. Paul describes ministry this way: “I try to find various ways to invite people to own their priestly calling and employ their gifts so that, together, we can be a part of what God is already doing all around us. As a pastor, my job is to do my best to point others to God and encourage their identity and purpose in Christ. Hopefully we have a good time in the process.”
Rev. Kristin Riegel
Rev. Kristin Riegel officially began her ministry at Second in July 2015. Kristin enjoys teaching people of all ages, building relationships, and providing pastoral care to people experiencing illness or transition. “Second is a church that is truly seeking to be faithful to God in the world by engaging in loving, just, and joyful work, both within and beyond the walls of the church. The sense of community, purpose, passion, and love at Second is palpable,” Kristin said.
Kristin attended Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities, Media, and Cultural Studes and minors in American Studies and Sociology. In fall 2010, Kristin entered McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois. There she learned about the history of the early church, the richness of the Reformed Tradition, and the distinct gifts and challenges of being the church in the 21st century. During her time at McCormick she began to develop her gifts for teaching, cross-cultural ministry and community building, and community-based artwork. She graduated from McCormick in May 2013 with a Master of Divinity degree.
Over the last two years, Kristin has served as a Lilly Resident Minister at The First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor in Michigan. She has provided pastoral care to hospitalized and homebound members, preached, taught Adult Education classes, worked with multiple committees, and provided pastoral support and leadership to the Israel Palestine and Philippines Mission Teams. Her first two years of ministry have been filled with joy, struggles, and much learning, laughter, and grace.
In her free time, Kristin enjoys traveling, running, reading, crafting, cooking, yoga, and spending time with family and friends.
