Building and Grounds
The Building and Grounds Committee oversees the property affairs of the church and advises the Session thereof. The Committee is intended to be a team that helps determine all facets of the use, maintenance, repairs, modifications, renovations, and additions to the property. They ensure that our facility supports and advances the mission of the church.

Congregational Life
The Congregational Life Committee provides ways to connect and build “community” in the church. The committee reviews current church activities, groups and ministries. The focus is on involvement of members in the life of the church and with each other, with the ultimate goal of members growing into deeper relationships with Jesus Christ. The committee works closely with the Director of Engagement.

Endowment
The Endowment Committee is engaged in developing planned giving at Second through direct member contact; will and estates seminars; the Legacy Circle; communication and publicity. Additionally, this committee works with our trust management firm to manage and oversee the church’s investments.

Family Ministries
The Family Ministries Committee works with the Director of Children’s Ministry and the Director of Youth Ministry to oversee and assist with faith formational programs for the children, youth and families of Second Presbyterian Church. The committee is committed to providing programs and opportunities for children and youth of all ages to be transformed by Jesus Christ to help transform the world.

Faith Development
The Faith Development Committee works to create and support various and meaningful opportunities for people at Second and in the community to explore, discuss and develop their understanding of God and faith. Adult Sunday school, mid-week classes and programs, small groups, library, and the Hage Committee all receive support and guidance from this committee.

Finance
The Finance Committee oversees all church finances in accordance with the mission of the church to ensure that Elders, Deacons, Ministers, staff and key leaders have current and accurate financial information and procedures and to insure the congregation has trust in the financial information, procedures and audits. Duties include preparing an annual budget, reviewing monthly church financial statements, establishing and reviewing all policies and procedures for financial accountability and control, reviewing insurance coverage and arranging the annual audit.

Memorial Gifts
The Memorial Gifts Committee makes decisions concerning appropriate use of funds given to the church in memory of deceased members. It also keeps track of those who give memorial gifts. The committee consists of 6 members, is moderated by a Session member, and has a Deacon representative. The committee meets as requests are received.

Mission
The Mission Committee leads the congregation in extending the care of Christ into a hurting world — in the neighborhood, across the city, nationally, and internationally. It has responsibility to provide funding, from the congregation’s mission giving, to local mission partners, and to encourage active participation of Second members in volunteer activities. The committee also does long-range study and planning for development of evolving mission initiatives.

Outreach and Hospitality
The Outreach and Hospitality Committee seeks to demonstrate God’s love by creatively promoting the unique programs and special opportunities at Second. Serving as a liaison for Second to the community, the committee reaches out, invites, and engages visitors by publicizing our events and activities, utilizing all forms of marketing and media. The committee also oversees hospitality initiatives, and seeks to provide volunteers, programs and structures to welcome and acclimate visitors to life at Second.

Personnel
The Personnel Committee is a committee of Session responsible for supporting the Head of Staff in staffing decisions, helping the Church staff to efficiently meet the needs of the Session and congregation, insuring that each employee is treated in a fair and loving manner, and assisting in annual performance reviews of all staff. The committee regularly reviews the Personnel Policy Guidelines and recommends policy changes to Session when needed. The committee also provides accountability for the Head of Staff, asking questions when deemed necessary.

Stewardship 2.0
The Stewardship 2.0 Committee works year-round to expand the understanding of stewardship at Second Presbyterian Church as a key element of Christian discipleship; a grateful response to God’s grace and goodness. Our goal is to develop a culture of gratitude and generosity at Second. We celebrate and encourage the congregation’s contributions of time, talent and finances.

Social Justice and Peacemaking
The Social Justice and Peacemaking Committee is involved in the ministry of the church by furthering the cause of human rights, social justice, peace and the preservation of the environment through education, contemplation, advocacy and service.

Worship
The Worship Committee works closely with the Pastor, Worship Leader and Choir Director to provide the support needed to ensure that all people at Second experience meaningful time and space to join in joyful fellowship with God through Word, Sacraments, contemplation and music. This includes the oversight of our worship spaces and seeing that all preparations are made for any special or additional worship experiences.
