Kansas: Thick and Thin
Sundays, June 2 and 9 at 9 a.m, Community Room (Witherspoon)
Kansas is “thick” like the air in June, like the roots of prairie grasses, like the idea of “home.” And Kansas is “thin” like the first light of the morning, like the soil of the Flint Hills, like those places that Celtic Christians thought of as “transparencies,” where heaven and earth are only thinly separated. Join Doug Hundley in a two-part study of how this vast openness inspires reverence and how people on the prairies have persevered.
“Strong Core” Sermon Series
Starts Sunday, June 16
Seems like today, everyone is talking about how important it is to have a strong core. And they’re right. With a strong core, all our parts are better able to work in balance. Similarly, if we make time to strengthen the core of our identity and convictions, we are better able to withstand provocations and views that hit us from all sides – while remaining caring, confident and humble. By building the strength of our moral and spiritual core, the Spirit gives us strength to balance (seemingly) opposing views more easily and in line with our faith and principles. Come work on your core with us this summer.
Sundays, June 23 and 30, 9-10 a.m. in the Library
Come to learn about the history and beliefs of Celtic Christianity as well as spiritual practices you can incorporate into your own life. Taught by Kathy West.
