The Common Room
Sundays, 10:45 a.m. in the Community Room at Second Presbyterian Church
The Common Room is a comfortable, shared space for interacting around the common human experiences we wrestle with. Through a progressive, spiritual lens, we explore the social issues and topics affecting our city and world today. This is a space where all are invited to learn, question, reflect and create. Introverts, extroverts, artists, intellectuals, nerds and explorers will find ways to engage and connect that are generative; bringing common hope into what can feel at times like a lonely and anxious world. You are invited to participate in whatever way feels comfortable to you, whether that’s sitting in one of the chairs along the walls or with a group around the tables.
How it Works
Around 10:45, someone will share a few welcoming words, introduce our topic and lead us through a centering exercise. Next, we’ll delve into the topic of the day. One person will share their prepared ideas and reflections, then a co-leader will respond with their own thoughts and questions. Finally, the rest of us will have an opportunity to respond in a variety of ways — verbally, artistically, emotionally, etc.
We’ll conclude our time together by sharing opportunities for us to engage our hands in the issues that have stirred our heads and hearts. We’d love to hear what you’ve been up to and connections you bring that could empower and encourage others.
