Fall Kickoff is Here!

At Second, we want each child to . . .

  • Feel Safe

Physical and spiritual safety creates space to ask questions, to wonder, and to grow.

  • Be Known

Of course we want to know their names, and birthdays, but also their joys and concerns, what really matters to them, etc.

  • Be Loved

We need to be known to be loved – otherwise, love is an abstract concept. We love children in the fullness of their identity and being.

  • Belong

To belong. Having a community of peers helps kids understand themselves as part of the church.

  • Be Heard

We desire for kids to be seen as leaders and to have their voices and ideas heard and supported.

What to expect on Sundays

Sunday mornings are busy! We strive to create a schedule and Christian Education that offer a meaningful and efficient way for your family to participate as often as you’re able. On Sundays we have Connect Hour from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with opportunities for adults and children to connect, followed by our worship service from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., and we round out the morning with Coffee Hour after worship with coffee and donuts in the community room. Read more about our Sunday morning children’s programming here:

  • From 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., children ages Pre-K to 5th grade have fun, build friendships, and discover their place in God’s story in Kids Connect.

Worship Alive meets in room 308 on the third floor of the education wing, and sometimes in the Calvin Center in the basement of the education wing.

  • For little ones from birth through age three, our nursery care is available from 9:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. in the nursery on the second floor. Our nursery is staffed by Nannies of KC to ensure reliable, warm, trustworthy caregivers are available every week to look after our youngest members.

  • Godly Play is a Montessori-based program that invites children ages 4 through 1st grade to explore the mystery of God's presence in our lives.

Kids will start with their families in worship at 10:15, and then after the call to worship a Shepherd will come to guide them upstairs to their classroom. If this is your first time, we encourage you to accompany your child to their classroom, meet their teacher, get us a quick bit of information, then return to the service. After worship, parents can head upstairs for pick up.

Located in room 304 on the third floor of the education wing.

  • In 2nd & 3rd grade Sunday school, children deepen their knowledge of the Bible by exploring stories from the Old and New Testament.

  • Worship Alive is a program that invites youth to explore the Old and New Testament, spiritual practices, the sacraments, and Christian discipleship over the course of three years. Each lesson includes a time of gathering and song, an interactive lesson, and personal reflection and prayer.
