Gail Cunningham

Gail was born in a concentration camp for persons of Japanese descent called Topaz, in the Utah desert during World War II, the seventh of nine kids. She grew up in North Platte, Nebraska, where her family had a flower shop and joined the First Presbyterian Church.  After Hastings College (then Presbyterian Church-related) and the University of Nebraska, she came to Kansas City to be an editor at Hallmark cards and joined Second Pres.  Gail taught Sunday school and has served as a deacon, elder, and member of nominating committees.  She’s also served with Presbyterian Women, Church Women United, the Heartland Presbytery Committee on Representation and Nominations Committee, and recently served on the presbytery Search Committee. She’s been happily married to Ed Cunningham 53 years. Gail’s daughter Emily lives in Evanston, IL, with her husband and two children.  Her daughter Katy died of cancer in 2017, and Katy’s husband and son live in New Jersey.  A life goal is to learn the names of everyone at Second.
