Kansas City Black History Site

This week’s recommendation is shared by Ellen Long.

As we celebrate Black History Month, I’d like to recommend the KC Black History website, kcblackhistory.org, as a wonderful resource that offers a wealth of information about the lives, talents and community activism of many Black Kansas Citians. The paragraphs below, taken from the website’s introductory information, provide a brief description of the site, but please go to the site yourself and enjoy exploring. So much great information is available at your fingertips.

“Since 2010, the Local Investment Commission, Kansas City Public Library, and Black Archives of Mid-America have created annual booklets, posters, and calendars celebrating Black history in Kansas City. The more than 70 biographies of Black Kansas Citians featured in the publications, as well as additional essays, lesson plans, and other resources, are found on this site. The aim of KCBlackHistory is to serve as an education resource for learning about Kansas City’s African American community by highlighting the contributions of those who left an indelible mark and shaped our city and nation.
