Second Family Ministries

Supporting families through births, graduations, and everything in between.

At Second, each child will . . .

  • Be Safe

Physical and spiritual safety creates space to ask questions, to wonder, and to grow.

  • Be Known

Of course we want to know their names, and birthdays, but also their joys and concerns, what really matters to them, etc.

  • Be Loved

We need to be known to be loved – otherwise, love is an abstract concept. We love children in the fullness of their identity and being.

  • Be Heard

We desire for kids to be seen as leaders and to have their voices and ideas heard and supported.

  • Belong

To belong. Having a community of peers helps kids understand themselves as part of the church.

What to expect on Sundays

Sunday mornings are busy! We strive to create a schedule and Christian Education that offer a meaningful and efficient way for your family to participate as often as you’re able. On Sundays we offer children’s classes during our worship service from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., and we round out the morning with Coffee Hour after worship with coffee and donuts in the community room. Read more about our Sunday morning children’s programming here:

  • For little ones from birth through age three, our nursery care is available in the nursery on the third floor. Our nursery is staffed by Nannies of KC to ensure reliable, warm, trustworthy caregivers are available every week to look after our youngest members.

  • Kids will start with their families in worship at 10:15, and then after the children's time kids will be led to their 3rd floor classroom. If this is your first time, we encourage you to accompany your child to their classroom, meet their teacher, get us a quick bit of information, then return to the service. After worship, parents can head upstairs for pick up.

  • In 2nd & 3rd grade children deepen their knowledge of the Bible by exploring stories from the Old and New Testament.

  • Worship Alive is a program that invites 4th and 5th graders to explore the Old and New Testament, spiritual practices, the sacraments, and Christian discipleship over the course of three years. Each lesson includes a time of gathering and song, an interactive lesson, and personal reflection and prayer.

  • Children

Our children's ministry cares for kids from birth all the way to 5th grade. Beyond our Sunday morning classes kids can look forward to events such as:

    • Parents' Night Out Events

    • Christmas Pageant

    • Family Camp

    • Block Party Events

  • Families

All families are affirmed and celebrated at Second!

Whether your family is formed by biology, adoption, foster care, or any other means - whether parents and kids, grandparents and cousins, or a chosen family - we know that love is what brings you together!

Beyond worship, we offer many ways for families to connect, learn, and serve together including social media, special events, mission and service events, and intergenerational learning opportunities throughout the year. We would love to tell you more about what Second Family Ministries has going on!
