Two Recommended Podcasts: “The Promise” and Ep. 34 of “Lady Science”

This week’s anti-racism recommendations are shared by Deb Meinke.

(1) Interested in integrated education? I recommend Season 2 of “The Promise” podcast on the state of integrated public education in Nashville, TN. My previous understanding was that school integration tracked with neighborhood integration. This podcast turned that simplistic view on its head by zeroing in on a highly integrated neighborhood with two highly segregated elementary schools.

If you only have time to listen to one episode, start with Season 2, Episode 1, “A Tale of Two Schools.”

(2) For a bridge between Black History Month and Women’s History Month, I recommend Episode 34 of the Lady Science podcast, “Women and the National Parks: Race and Gender in the Making of the National Parks.” The “Lady Hosts” are wickedly funny in delivering their history of ‘Americans running off into the woods.’
