Three Podcast Recommendations
This week’s recommendations are shared by Deb Meinke.
(1) Actor Jake Gyllenhaal started a firestorm recently with his revelation that he doesn’t shower all that often, a reminder that the history of ‘cleanliness’ and race is shot through with white privilege. Check out this episode of Sam Sanders’ “It’s Been a Minute”: hygiene-debates-skipping-showers-and-climate-change-oh-my.
(2) A larger issue than showering (or not) also landed in my podcast files this week. The second season of Rebecca Nagle’s This Land podcast dropped on August 23 and is a timely exposé about how the far right is using Native children to quietly dismantle American Indian tribes and advance a conservative agenda. Listen at crooked.com/podcast-series/this-land.
(3) And finally, another plug for Code Switch, NPR’s podcast on race. If you are searching for a variety of new reading material, check out the “Words to Set You Free” episode, which features delightful book recommendations by members of the Code Switch team.
