At Second, each child will . . .

9:00 a.m. Connection Hour

Build relationships, learn about God’s goodness, and ask questions. Connection Hour programming begins on Sunday, September 7th and runs through the end of May.

  • Care is available in the nursery on the third floor in room 305 for little ones through age two. Our nursery is staffed by Nannies of KC to ensure reliable, warm, trustworthy caregivers are available every week to look after our youngest members.

  • Sunday School is a chance for kids ages 3 through 5th grade to experience the love of God through bible stories, crafts, games, and build friendships with their church community.

Join us for a quick breakfast in Westminster Hall starting at 8:45 and you can pick up your kids in the sanctuary after class at 10:00.

  • This group is for any one with kids at home trying to figure out what it looks like to pass on your faith to your kids. We will not have all the answers, but we will look to scripture, learn from one another, celebrate each others’ joys, and hold space for the grief in our lives as parents.

Join us in the gallery starting at 9:00 a.m.

10:15 a.m. Worship

At Second we believe that children are not only the future of the church, they are our present reality. We welcome children in worship and strive to create an accessible experience for kids of all ages to worship the living God alongside their families.

  • Care is available in the nursery on the third floor in room 305 for little ones through age four during worship. Our nursery is staffed by professional nannies to ensure reliable, warm, trustworthy caregivers are available every week to look after our youngest members.

  • Research tells us that children derive both long-term and short-term benefit from multigenerational worship. To support growing minds and wiggly bodies in the sanctuary we offer the following worship aides:

    • The Pray-Ground is a space in the transept with craft tables, clip boards, coloring tools, and a little more room to move.

    • Children’s bulletins provide a road map of the service to help make sense of the experience from a child’s perspective.

    • Fidgets are available to give our hands something to do so our ears can focus on worship.

    • Pillows are available for nursing or bottle feeding parents. A restroom with a changing table is just outside the transept doors.

  • Our Rhythms

    - Families look forward to our Children’s Christmas Pageant in December, the Easter Block Party in the spring, and Second Kids Camp which takes place in July.

    - Pre-Teen (4th & 5th Grade) gatherings take place on the second Sunday of each month following worship.

    - Parents’ Night Out events happen in October, December, February, and April and are open to children age 6 weeks through 5th grade.

    - Preschool families are invited to meet up at different parks or splash pads every couple of months.

  • Faith Milestones

Throughout the year we offer a series of classes and workshops dedicated to spending intentional time focusing on age-appropriate faith practices. These workshops are designed to be interactive, educational, and helpful in bringing abstract concepts into focus for growing minds. Parents attend alongside their children as built-in opportunities for conversations that can continue throughout the week.
