Sanctuary Concert

Join us for a free concert in the sanctuary performed by UMKC students.

They will be playing Suite for Violin and Piano by P. Scharwenka, Beethoven Sonata No. 8 for Violin and Piano, and Ysaye Sonata No. 4 for Solo Violin.

All are welcome!

Ilvina Gabrielian comes from her home country of Russia. After earning a Specialist’s Diploma degree at the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory (Saint Petersburg, Russia), where she studied with the violin professor Alexander Stang, Ilvina came to the United States to further her education. She was a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Kansas, where she studied with the violin professor David Colwell and earned her master’s and doctoral degrees in Violin Performance. Continuing her educational pursuits, Ilvina is currently an Artist’s Certificate student of the violin professor Benny Kim at the University of Missouri – Kansas City where she has been awarded a Concertmaster Fellowship. 

Throughout her studies, Ilvina has participated in solo and chamber masterclasses with such outstanding musicians as Gil Shaham, Zlatomir Fung, Frank Huang, Michael Stern, Stephanie Chase, Benjamin Beilman, and Jun Iwasaki. As an active musician, Ilvina has performed solo and chamber works in many venues within the United States and abroad and participated in various music festivals including Kent Blossom Music Festival in Ohio, Bowdoin International Music Festival in Maine, Heartland Chamber Music Festival in Kansas, and Muzikale Oktober Best in the Netherlands. 

In addition to being a dedicated solo and chamber musician, Ilvina is a rotating concertmaster of the UMKC Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, and she regularly performs as an orchestral musician with the Kansas City Symphony, Park ICM Orchestra, Missouri Symphony Orchestra, and NAVO Orchestra. 

Zhihan Li, pianist, brings sensitivity and clarity to his performances of classical repertoire. Originally from Chengdu, China, he is pursuing his Master of Music degree in Piano Performance at the UMKC Conservatory, where he studies with Professor Sean Chen and is the recipient of the John D. The Kelly Scholarship in the Keyboard Area. He has performed in Prague, Vienna, and cities across China, and is passionate about chamber music and collaborative piano. Zhihan also actively participates in community outreach performances.
