Care &
Support

At Second, we know that we can’t go through life alone. We need one another, and we consider it an honor to walk with each other through the ups and downs of life. Below are a collection of ways that we strive to "bear one another’s burdens," as the author of Galatians said. It’s one of the many gifts of being church community.

Prayer List & Sunday Prayer

Part of being a community that bears one another’s burdens, is being a community that prays with and for one another. We have three ways to give and receive prayer:

Every Tuesday, the newsletter includes a “prayer list” of current prayer requests from the community.  Click the “prayer list” button at the top of the newsletter to read and pray over these requests. To be added or removed from the prayer list, email connect@secondpres.org

In the sanctuary, you will find “Prayer Cards” in the pews. If you have a prayer request you’d like to share with Pastor Sarah, please fill out a prayer card and leave it in the offering plate. We’d love to hear from you!

After worship, two deacons will be available to pray under the large window in the transept (the area by the children’s “Prayground”). If you have a prayer request, whether it be a joy or a heartache, the deacons would love to pray with and for you.

Coffee with Sarah

Every week, Pastor Sarah tries to connect with members of our community for a one-on-one visit. This is a chance to share the joys and challenges in your life with a safe listening ear. If you would like to schedule a coffee meeting with Sarah, then please email connect@secondpres.org.

She’d love to get you on her books!

Faith and Grief

If you have experienced the death of a loved one, then Faith and Grief is one of the many services we support and encourage. Every month, members of the community gather for a lunch and conversation around this particular kind of grief. Meeting dates are advertised in our newsletter, as well as on the Faith and Grief website.

Deacons

Second has a board of 15 deacons, who are called and installed into a service role in the congregation. Deacons are partnered with an individual or a family to walk with over the course of three years. This is an intentional effort to provide long term support to those who need it, and to weave deeper webs of relationship across the congregation. If you feel like you or your family could benefit from a deacon in this season of life, we’d love to hear from you. Email connect@secondpres.org to begin the conversation!

Meal Trains

One of the services the church offers is temporary meal train support. If you have had a baby, had a surgery, lost a loved one, or are experiencing a temporary illness, then we would love to help provide you with up to three meals. To inquire about meal train support, please email connect@secondpres.org

Memorial Services and Funerals

One of the roles of the church is to walk with families in seasons of loss, and to witness to the good news of the gospel. We do this every month through meaningful and hopeful memorial services and funerals. If you have lost a loved one and need assistance planning a service, please email Pastor Sarah.

If you would like to leave a record with the church regarding wishes for your own service from music, to scripture and more, you can fill out the Memorial/Funeral Pre-planning Form

Remembering Loved Ones

Throughout the year we offer a few times to remember and honor loved ones we’ve lost. On the first Sunday of November, All Saint’s Sunday, we light a candle and read aloud the name of all members who have passed in the last year during worship. If you have a loved one lost this year and would like to include their name in that reading, please email connect@secondpres.org. Similarly, at Christmas and at Easter, individuals are able to order a flower (poinsettia or Easter lily) in honor of, in celebration of, or in memory of a loved one. Order forms will be shared online in the weeks leading up to those holy days.
