There are some life lessons that we pass down from generation to generation. We pass down catch phrases and recipes. We pass down habits and stories. We pass down favorite sports teams and sage life advice. And when it comes to our faith, we have to do the same.
So what is it that we want the next generation to know? What do we want them to know about God? What do we want them to know about community? What do we want the children to know about Second Presbyterian Church?
This stewardship season, we will reflect on some of the most important lessons our faith bestows upon us – lessons of love, justice, belonging and hope. And as we do, we will pass those lessons of love on. Together, we will look towards the next generation with hope in our hearts. And together, we will pay it forward.
So what would you tell the children?
How about, “We’re glad you’re here.”
How about, “You are loved by God.”
How about, “We are with you.”
What do you want the next generation to know?
"The church is a living, breathing family, dedicated to making our world better by following Christ’s example.” - Mary Corneil
“Volunteer. Your heart and money will follow.” - Martin Orr
“Second Presbyterian is ever-changing, but God’s faithfulness remains the same.” - Susan Krusemark
“The church family is special and unlike any other family. It is a chance to be in community with people of all ages through the seasons of life together, anchored and sustained by the love of God and love for one another. We all long to belong, and the church family gives everyone a place to truly belong and be fully loved." - Brian and Merrill Myers
Frequently Asked Questions

This year we hope to raise $835,000 for the 2027 year. This number is about a $35,000 increase over what was pledged during last year’s stewardship season. That means if everyone who gave last year gave $22.50 more per month, or $270 more per year, we would meet our goal. If folks choose to go beyond that level of generosity, we would surpass it! We hope you will prayerfully consider how much you can help support the future of Second.
-
The stewardship goal is determined by the Finance and Stewardship committees.
In an effort to move our congregation towards sustainability, we realize that we need to continue to increase giving.
However, we also realize that we cannot ask for large increases each year. Therefore, this year’s goal is a smaller ask.
With that said, if you are able to give beyond this small increase, we ask that you earnestly and faithfully consider doing so. Every dollar makes a difference.

If you do not receive a stewardship packet in the mail, we will have brochures and pledge cards available at the church.

If you submitted a pledge to Second Presbyterian Church for 2026, then you will likely receive a stewardship packet that includes a brochure, pledge card, and a letter from the church inviting you to consider what you can give for 2027.
The letters are personalized for each household, but are consistent in their ask. The ask was kept consistent out of a desire to be fair to all households, and to not make assumptions about any one person’s particular financial standing.
If you have questions about your letter or about this personal outreach, reach out to Pastor Sarah. Her door is always open! You can contact her at sspeed@secondpres.org.

Not every season is a season for increasing generosity. We understand that.
There are some seasons where we are able to give more financially, some seasons where we are able to give more time and energy, and some seasons where we cannot give much at all and have to allow ourselves to be supported by the community around us.
Whatever season you find yourself in, know that you belong here.
