October’s Solidarity and Social Change class will hear from Shannon Hammonds about Guns to Gardens, a safe gun disposal initiative that provides community members with an opportunity to responsibly surrender unwanted or unusable firearms. The firearms are permanently transformed into beautiful works of art, creating symbols of hope, healing, and community connection while helping reduce the risk of gun violence.

Shannon Hammonds serves on the Executive Board of Guns to Gardens KC. She felt called to become involved because of her desire to make a positive impact on gun violence in our communities and to help create meaningful pathways toward safety and healing.
