This KC artist is turning quilts into portraits of Black beauty and identity

Sacred Seams is the debut solo exhibition of textile artist Kim Alexis Newton, whose portrait quilts merge contemporary portraiture with the ancestral language of quilting. The exhibit at Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Center runs through August.
